Today is Monday 2nd August

Today is my nephew’s 53rd birthday. He is 17 months younger than his brother who at 54 was the first arrival to make me an Auntie in 1967. Although I haven’t seen him for over 25 years now, I hope he is keeping well and having a lovely day.

The day has started hot and breezy. The washing is out, and we nipped up the road to the pet shop to buy a bag of bird seed. The last lot we bought was in Skegness and on special offer at £9, so I wasn’t too surprised to see they wanted £12 here. This has turned out to be a bargain as the bag we bought last time only weighed 12.75kg, and the one today is 20kg.
From there we went to the garden centre as I’m after a bird bath. My family bought me one for my 50th birthday but when we sold the cottage and bought the boat, it got sent to charity with the bulk of our possessions.
I was somewhat dismayed to see bird seed at £10, then checked the weight and that was 12.75 kg so felt quite happy but could not believe they wanted £35 for the same weight in sunflower hearts!
Bird baths started at £30 which was way over my budget of a tenner, so we just came away with a small bag of compost for Hubby and dropped into the supermarket on the way home for fruit and poppadoms to go with our curry today.
Apart from staff and us, no-one was wearing a mask. Ho hum. Personal choice, and ours is to still wear them.

Going to have a lazy day today, basically because it’s too damn hot to do very much! We certainly can’t work in the garden so will cut the grass this evening when it’s cooler. Town is already packed so walks are also out, but having one around 9pm is very pleasant!

Hope your day has started well.
Keep safe everyone

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I hope your day has gone well since💜

  3. While the only mandates here are what one wishes to do, we started wearing masks again around people….people stared last week, but not now. So glad you found bird seed- everything has gotten so expensive now. Can you make a bird feeder out of “found” items? Had to laugh – We have a pedestal base which is cracked a little that someone tossed out which sometimes holds plants of pumpkins or basins of water in very dry times. Maybe a paint the outside of an old flower pot to hold water ?(check the paint label – some may be safe?)
Enjoy the laziness – not always possible! HaHa

It pays to shop around – what a difference in price of bird seed! Glad you found a bargain. And good luck finding a bird bath.
Enjoy your evening walk – and avoiding the crowds. 🙂

  5. I was really impressed in Tesco earlier to see that 90% of people were wearing a mask

Glad your bird seed was a value and that size bag should last awhile! There are several artist who are making their own bird baths. I’ve never tried… I bet you could find a second hand large shallow bowl and your husband could make a pedestal for less than the cost in the store! (just a thought)
