Today is Saturday 24th July

Hello everyone! Hope your day has started off well. Once again our forecast is stating something different to what we’re looking at, which is cloudy skies and a muggy atmosphere. It’s quite oppressive, so maybe the forecast rain is on its way and doing a slight detour elsewhere in the country.
Up to the pharmacy this morning to collect an omitted item from our monthly order. This was an oversight on our part so not a problem, and our pharmacy are usually pretty good at getting it right, provided they have the items in stock. That’s the beauty of putting in our monthly request as it gives them ample notice to fill our prescriptions.
We popped into the supermarket to get some cranberry juice for Hubby as this has been known to help settle any digestive issues in the past. He has to be careful though as too much can affect his INR which has been all over the place recently. The shop was full of the unmasked crusaders, ie. holiday makers, who were stripping the shelves like there was no tomorrow. Water of all descriptions was at an all time low, as were fruit juices and fizzy drinks. We saw the ultimate in panic buying when one guy picked up a complete tray of bread and tipped the lot into his trolley.

Lunch today is chili. I haven’t done one for a while and this will, as usual, last us two days.
‘Heat’ as in flavour is hit and miss as it’s a new jar of chili powder, and not the make I usually buy. Although it says mild on the label, even a little amount can take the roof of your mouth off. Oh well, thanks to instant mash I can reduce it if necessary.

Hubby is working on his latest project, and it is all coming together very nicely so he is quite pleased. I don’t know what I’m going to do with my day yet. It’s just gone midday so I have a free afternoon. Saturdays are usually busy in blogland, so there may be a few posts from me today.

As always, take care and keep safe.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I didn’t know that instant mash reduced heat in a dish! Has hubby been communicating on his equipment?

    • Potatoes take the heat out of a curry, so instant mash is ideal for that and chili if too much powder goes in the pan.
The CB airwaves have been quiet, but apparently that is not uncommon in extreme heat like we’ve had recently as it affects the atmosphere. Saying that though, he was chatting to someone in The Congo not that long ago!

A whole try of bread? Why?

Sad to hear that the tourists are panic buying… I hope your day is easy and relaxing. We are under a severe thunderstorm watch so I’m expecting some heavy rain and hopefully a cooling off!
