Double Take – Saturday Mix, 24 July 2021

Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 24 July 2021!

The ‘Double Take’ challenge focuses on the use of homophones* to build your writing piece. You have two sets of homophones and you are challenged to use all of them in your response – which can be poetry or prose.

Our homophone sets this week are:

horse – animal
hoarse – lack of voice

and

stationery – pen, paper, envelope etc.
stationary – still, unmoving

The lazy filing clerk

The pile of paperwork wasn’t going anywhere, so one could say it was stationary stationery.

How to get out of jail with a play on words (not an original story though):

First clap your hands until they are a little sore, then use the saw to cut the leg of your cot in half. Two halves make a whole, so you yell through the hole until you get a little hoarse, then jump through the hole onto the horse and ride away.
(or something like that………… yes I know, I’m leaving now)

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Entertaining! Thanks Di

  3. Love the humour and playful take, Di! Not forgetting your perfect word placement at their right places to have the poem beautifully expressed!
