The Question

This past Friday, we fibbed about Christmas in July. Of course, this is Truthful Tuesday, so we must put aside the fibbing portion, but I would like to continue a similar theme. In keeping with that theme, this week’s question is…

What was your favorite holiday treat as a child?

We didn’t have that many holidays when I was a child, but in the Summer I remember Mr Whippy coming onto the estate and we’d line up for the best ice cream ever. If it was your birthday, you got a free one, so there were a lot of kids with a lot of birthdays, but ‘Louigi’  had a brilliant memory and didn’t let much get past him.
My dad wasn’t one for the beach, but if we did go, we’d have ice cream and in those days a guy would go round with a trolley rather than us queue at a kiosk. I found half a crown in the sand which was worth two shillings and sixpence, (12½p in today’s money) and bought ice cream for everyone and still had change.

But I think my most favourite treat all those years ago was candy floss. I would usually end up wearing some of it, but I loved the stuff, and still do. We only had pink then and I’d watch the sugar being spun in fascination. Now, you can get it practically anytime and in a variety of colours and flavours. There’s certainly no shortage of it here all year round.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Mmm. I love cotton candy (which is our term for candy floss) a great deal and the buggers have come out with containers of it, right near the checkout lanes in the grocery store, so temptation is right in my path! It’s just so darned good, isn’t it?!

Hehe! I loved to watch it being made but the look was much better than the actual taste! My favorite treat (that I could afford) was the frozen 3 Musketeers Bar. The pharmacy would toss the candy bars into a freezer and offer them at the same price as the regular ones… they were so rock solid that your only choice was to suck on them – they would last a long time!
