This past Friday, we fibbed about Christmas in July. Of course, this is Truthful Tuesday, so we must put aside the fibbing portion, but I would like to continue a similar theme. In keeping with that theme, this week’s question is…
What was your favorite holiday treat as a child?
We didn’t have that many holidays when I was a child, but in the Summer I remember Mr Whippy coming onto the estate and we’d line up for the best ice cream ever. If it was your birthday, you got a free one, so there were a lot of kids with a lot of birthdays, but ‘Louigi’ had a brilliant memory and didn’t let much get past him.
My dad wasn’t one for the beach, but if we did go, we’d have ice cream and in those days a guy would go round with a trolley rather than us queue at a kiosk. I found half a crown in the sand which was worth two shillings and sixpence, (12½p in today’s money) and bought ice cream for everyone and still had change.
But I think my most favourite treat all those years ago was candy floss. I would usually end up wearing some of it, but I loved the stuff, and still do. We only had pink then and I’d watch the sugar being spun in fascination. Now, you can get it practically anytime and in a variety of colours and flavours. There’s certainly no shortage of it here all year round.
