Thursday Inspiration #116 (They Long to Be) Close to You

The Thursday Inspiration series is now Jim’s baby and he’s picked The Carpenters this week.
Respond to this challenge, by either using the prompt word follow, or going with the above picture, or by means of the song ‘(They Long to Be) Close to You’, or by going with another song by The Carpenters, or anything else that you think fits.

The ex husband was a fan, and when we were courting, was constantly playing their  Horizon album.

Two tracks have stayed with me after all these years. I should have heeded their lyrics,  and follow my head and what it was telling me. Maybe in hindsight he had his doubts too, but like me, decided not to say anything.

One was I’m Caught Between Goodbye and I love You,

(I’m Caught Between) Goodbye And I Love You”
Lyrics courtesy azlyrics.com

I have something to tell you
and I know it won’t be easy
I’ve been thinking these past few days
it might be time to leave
You’re like a stranger
then you’re a lover
Never the same, always hard to believe

I’m caught between goodbye and I love you
Never knowing quite where I stand
I’m caught between goodbye and I love you
Falling both ways, nowhere to land

So constantly stranded
I can’t understand it
This troubled life you’ve handed me
Is like the devil and the deep blue sea

If we go on much longer
If my doubts grow any stronger
Then I may have to let you go
If only to survive
Give me a reason, why should I stay here
I’ve tried too hard just to keep love alive

I’m caught between goodbye and I love you
Never knowing quite where I stand
I’m caught between goodbye and I love you
Falling both ways, nowhere to land

So constantly stranded
I can’t understand it
This troubled life you’ve handed me
Is like the devil and the deep blue sea

The other was You’ve got to Love Me for what I am.

The lyrics are in the clip.

Hubby likes this one, and does……………… love me for what I am that is. Full circle maybe?

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Karen had such a beautiful voice and she did a great job on love songs, because she sounds just like an angel.

  2. John Holton says:

Karen had the voice of an angel…
