As always, have fun, and I hope you enjoy this week’s effort.
Our words were:
aghast, cower, diary, found, homely, link, people, preen, prune, reason, show, shrug, shy, slap, slime, slip, smiling, spouse, study, sudden, welcome
He found the diary by accident in her study and was aghast at its contents.
He’d had no reason to believe that his spouse had suffered so much at the hands of other people.
He thought they were slime, to make a child cower in fear and terror.
They had no link to humanity, these who would preen themselves in front of their friends but behind closed doors, that persona would slip and they would show their true colours.
It was the later entries that stunned him. The homely and shy woman who made everyone in their home welcome, had turned to a violent solution to her abuse.
Now he understood her obsession to prune her prize roses with such dedication and precision.
A sudden change in the air alerted him he was no longer alone, and he turned to see her standing in the doorway.
Smiling oddly, she approached him and took the journal from his hands.
With a shrug, she simply said
‘They deserved it.’
The cold delivery of her statement was like a slap in the face.
