No longer curious, the fish kept swimming.
No-one knew what it was or what it was for, and eventually as it didn’t do anything or go anywhere, the marine life simply ignored it.
The coral was different.
It saw an opportunity and bided its time.
The little lichens had made a start. They were always the foot soldiers in development, as gradually their ranks would be built upon and the other legions would follow.
Over the coming years, decades and centuries, the coral would embrace this entity and capture it for its own, giving it a natural beauty of colour and life, thus giving it purpose.
But for now, the fish kept swimming.
