5 Things Tuesday — Food Fads You Absolutely Hate

Dr Tanya is asking us for five things we hate rather than love this week.
Every Tuesday, here on 5things , I ask you to tell us about 5 of your favourite things based on a theme. This week, instead of asking you to name things you love, I want you to list food fads trends that you hate

Here are my answers:

Marmite.
Can’t stand the smell let alone anything else (Hubby loves it)
Celery.
This to me looks like anemic rhubarb, and I hate the smell and textureOysters.
The thought of eating something slimy and still alive makes me want to throw up.
Cockles and mussels
Again it’s the smell that gets me, but my only experience of cockles was sickly

Calamari (squid)
My BIL loved this, and his meal was presented in a cream sauce which reminded me of white worms. I couldn’t watch him eat it.

We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Oh LOL, I am with you on most of these, but I love calamari.

    • All a matter of personal taste. I love prawns, but my neighbour and husband can’t stand them!

        Oh, that’s interesting. I would think that since you can’t stand other seafood, you wouldn’t like this eihter. Or is Google translate doing something wrong? I mean, prawns are like shrimp right?

      • Yep. It’s daft I know. I like tuna, cod, smoked haddock and salmon, but rarely have the latter two due to price.

  2. I agree that the appearance and smell of food is a big part of its appeal.

  4. I’m not a fan of oysters, mussels and squid in cream sauce! It does look like white worms indeed

    • The only fish I enjoy is cod fillets, tuna fish, smoked haddock, salmon and prawns, the latter three are special treats for me as Hubby can’t eat them.

      • I like many varieties of fish as I hail from a coastal city. However ever since I moved to another city for work, marine fish is one protein that’s hard to come by. I love prawns but I am not a fan of tuna or salmon! 🙂

      • I didn’t touch fish of any kind for years as I nearly choked on a fish bone when I was very young and to eat it always terrified me.

      • Oh. I grew up eating fish. Whenever me or my brother choked on a fish bone, my mom would ask us to swallow a ball of rice. And that was that. I still prefer fish over any kind of meat. But unfortunately, it’s a bit difficult to come by over here.

    Yes celery is awful! But the seafood is one of my favorite things (anything from the sea). I’ve never had Marmite but I’d be willing to try it. What I can’t stomach is mustard, mayonnaise, pickles of any kind, and asparagus.

    I am with you on most of those but I do like Calamari fried, and I do have happy memories of eating cockles with dad at Southend!
