Song Lyric Sunday 6th June

Jim Adams is our host for the Song Lyric Sunday challenge and this week we have the theme of Old, New, Borrowed, Blue as in weddings/brides.
In July 1977, the only thing I can remember for this tradition was wearing a BLUE garter.
Ho hum. Maybe that was why it didn’t last, as I’d felt an OLD maid at 21 so took a NEW husband but on BORROWed time.

This week, I’m going with Eurovision and our entry from 1972, the year my sister married the wrong guy and our family wanted to lynch him.
Beg, Steal or Borrow was performed by The New Seekers and they gave it everything.
These were the days when each country had their own conductor to the host country’s orchestra, no backing tapes, and everything was live and about the music, not politics.
We came second to Norway that year, but in my opinion, it was one of our better entries and should have won. You can actually hear all the harmonies in this.

According to WIKI

“Beg, Steal or Borrow” was the British entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1972, performed in English by The New Seekers.

The song was composed and written by Tony Cole, Steve Wolfe and Graeme Hall. On the night of the contest, the song was directed by David Mackay.

The theme is a love song to a former lover. The two lovers should be together and one of them will “beg, steal or borrow” in order to “bring” the other love.

At the Contest, it was performed fifth on the night, following Spain’s Jaime Morey with “Amanece” and preceding Norway’s Grethe Kausland and Benny Borg with “Småting”. At the close of voting, it had received 114 points, placing 2nd in a field of 18.

You know I’ll beg steal or borrow, I bring you love
I look at you and I see what I’ve been looking for
Now it’s very clear to me we should be together
You make me feel I could reach for the impossible
And knowing how much you care, I’ll be there forever

You know I’ll beg, steal or borrow to give you sunny days
And in a hundred ways I’ll bring you love
You know I’ll beg steal or borrow (Yes, I will)
To make your garden grow

And most of all you know, I bring you love love love
I always knew that the world would be a finer place
So what if I have to wait, better late than never
You you’re like me, and you believe love makes it all worthwhile
And although we’ve just begun, we’ll go on forever

You know I’ll beg, steal or borrow to give you sunny days
And in a hundred ways I’ll bring you love love, yeah
Love, love , love

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
