KL Caley is our host for the Thursday Writephoto challenge. You can find out more and join in here
This week our photo is provided by guest blogger Jemima Pett.
For visually challenged writers, the image shows steps up and over a bridge, with narrow alleyways at each side of the bridge.
We always promised we’d return here one day.
It was our first trip abroad, and one that held so many precious memories.
How we laughed when we staggered out of the little restaurant in this alley, you holding me up because I’d had one glass too many, and I’d only had three. Never was a drinker.
Like a couple of kids we giggled up the steps, looking below when we reached the bridge.
You said you’d hire a boat and serenade me on the water, so I started to sing the ice cream song.
Our hotel wasn’t far away, which was just as well as neither of us was in a fit state to drive.
We walked everywhere then didn’t we. Took in the sights, proper little tourists buying our mementos and souvenirs, not to mention those idyllic chocolate honeycomb confections that melted in the mouth and lingered on the tongue as well as the hips.
Oh happy days.
I can hear you now…………………
‘Just one Cornetto……..’ rings out in my memories and I climb those same steps with difficulty.
We promised we’d return here one day, and here we are.
I scatter your ashes my darling, and retire to the same hotel room we shared all those years ago.
I will not be far behind you Beloved, and the landlord, a personal friend, has promised to unite us when my time comes.
Aww. Such a bittersweet story, Di. Loved it. Great take on the prompt.
Thanks Schweta
Oh Di…my heart!! How lovely this is. Also left my mouth salivating for some idyllic chocolate honeycomb confections 🙂
Thanks Sara. Those chocolate confections were memories of our honeymoon in Amsterdam, as was the ‘drunk’ on three small glasses of beer.
Thus is absolutely lovely Di , 💜
thanks Willow

I’m all teary eyed. True love indeed….

I like that. And of course the ice cream song. 🙂
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Beautifully told! I enjoyed this.
Thanks Susan

Thank you
Ouch. Well done.
Thanks
Oh no, I thought this was so sweet and then you snuck up on me with the sadness. Bittersweet, lovers united when the time comes, (great take though). Thank you for joining in the challenge:
