Today is Thursday 13th May

It is a beautiful day today. I can hear a sparrow chirping away on our neighbour’s roof and there is an answering call not too far away. Apparently we have three gosling families in the park so we might go for a walk this afternoon and I’ll take the camera.

We’ve been busy transplanting our carrots, cauliflowers, parsnips, cabbages and tomatoes this morning. They are all doing very well, so I hope we don’t have a frost now we’ve put a lot outside.

Hubby had a blood test this morning and is still out of range, so another is scheduled for next week. We don’t know why, but they couldn’t access the system to modify his daily dose so someone should call him later to confirm or adjust the guestimate given. His usual nurse is still poorly and the B team are closer to Z.

I have been keeping an eye on our energy bill and although our monthly payment is ample to cover our usage, we are not making as much of a dent in the deficit over the cold winter months as we should be. I was already prepared to make a one off payment to clear it, so was not surprised when I received an email suggesting just that. The link in the message wasn’t secure, so I rang in this morning and everything has gone through OK.  We are now back in control and whatever isn’t used on a monthly basis will accumulate for the winter as it should be.

Dinner today is chili and rice as made by me. This isn’t the first once I’ve made since Hubby’s op so all being well he should be OK with it. He had two small slices of my cheesecake yesterday with no repercussion at all. Hopefully we have turned a corner, but I’m not counting my chickens or getting too excited.

The aerial is back up, the wiring being done as I type, and hopefully he’ll be in business this afternoon.  I shall be so pleased as he’s booked a course that’s due to commence on Sunday.

I had a smoothie for my breakfast this morning. Hubby bought me a smoothie maker so I tried it yesterday. OMG. Not what I thought, and it seemed really weird having to tip the stand up to lock it onto the container before whizzing. Turns out the blades detach from the base so once we got that sorted, I was away…………..  sort of. It didn’t work. The machine was silent and I was gutted. That was until we realised we’d turned on the wrong appliance at the socket. Aha! We’re off……………….. not.  Then checking everything was correctly in place, we found we hadn’t clicked the detachment fully back in place. All good safety features, and I had my banana and blueberries with yogurt. Not bad. This morning I added grapes and a huge strawberry. Better, but tomorrow I’m not having the banana.

There’s a candle burning for my Dad today as we lost him 25 years ago. The little heart spinner is gong nuts. I think of my Mum and Dad together, and glad they are safe from the current state of affairs in the country.

Hope your day has started well. Keep safe everyone

I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I like bananas with my ice cream (with chocolate syrup of course) but not in my smoothies. They seem to overpower some of the other fruits. We have had a run of super sweet blackberries in the past month and I’ve gorged on those. I love strawberries but the containers are too large for me. They go bad before I can finish them unless I freeze them. Blueberries last much longer and don’t get rubbery.

    • Hi Kate. I’m having fun experimenting with my new toy and agree with you about the banana. Tomorrow will be grapes, strawberries and blueberries. I have some frozen mango and forest fruits so could throw in some of those, and some dried apricots. The combinations are endless!

Yep. The banana is best solo. I’m glad you figured out the smoothie maker. I had to get a new blender several years ago (the one I got for my wedding died after 35 years) and it was very fancy! Took me a while to figure out all the buttons.

A smoothie maker sounds cool! I need one of those! 😀
