I miss my dexterity

According the merriam webster directory,

Dexterity definition is – readiness and grace in physical activity; especially : skill and ease in using the hands.

I look at my hands and reminisce,
Of music played from yesteryear.
Slim and agile, they graced the notes,
The melody bringing a poignant tear.
When at school, things were awkward for me,
Like craftwork, art and knitting,
My mind was more mathematical then,
So economics and money more fitting.
Never encouraged, more bullied with spite
Because I was not very dexterous,
I’d put things together, more wonky than straight,
Put in frills and bows as my extras.
I have my moments, and a lot of fun too
With papers and double sided tape,
I look at my hands, now gnarled and bent,
And think of the patterns I generate.
It’s harder to grip and hold on to things,
Teachers told me being slow was a crime,
Dexterity may be elusive and stiff,
But at least I can take my time.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    Well said Di💜💜

  2. My hands used to be so much more confident, with a grip so sure. Now they drop things on a regular basis!

To quote one of my favorite animated characters, Goofy, “Slow and steady, steady and slow, that’s the way we like to go!”
