Today is Wednesday 21st April

Happy Birthday to our Queen who is 95 today. After recent events and Covid, there will be no National celebrations, but from what I’ve read, the Royal Family will be visiting her in relay to mark the occasion.
The day has dawned cold and windy. We turned the heating off yesterday as we have several times during the day over the past week as it’s been so warm and sunny, but my feet and hands are cold so it’s going on again together with the kettle for a third cuppa!

I have done my Rita Meter Maid impression and we are looking good, having used just £9 of energy this week. My new spreadsheet is working well, as this includes the daily standard charge too, so when our bills come in, I’ll have no nasty surprises. We take full advantage of fixed tariffs, and this one expires at the end of September. Even if the new company end up charging us monthly in full rather than a budget plan spreading the cost over the year, I’m getting a good idea of how much we spend. It may sound a little extreme or obsessive, but we refuse to be cold in the winter and I can make allowances elsewhere.

Today will see day 2 of the chili I made yesterday. Hubby managed it with no problems after whizzing his portion, and today he fancies pasta rather than a jacket potato with it. Using the same quills as I do for his McCheese this should also be OK. We’re getting there.
Tomorrow will see us with either stew or something shop-bought depending on when we get back from his hospital appointment.

The other day I was cutting out flowers and butterflies from pretty paper bags. I might have a go at using them today and see how they work out. Pointless doing loads and then finding them no good. I’ve thought about if the double sided tape shows through and have decided to do thin strips radiating out from the centre to the edge which might make it look like part of the petal rather than an ugly blob. We shall see. I’ve also got an idea for abstracts which might work for my Hello cards.

Our day is otherwise our own to do as we please, though with this wind, we will not be venturing far. What are your plans?

Take care and keep safe everyone.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. The Queen’s 95th birthday should be a joyous occasion. I’m sad she has to spend it without the love of her life, shut in. It’s heartbreaking.

I’m doing some simple household chores – cleaning the bathroom and vacuuming. Then after lunch I’m off to work (a limited engagement to provide hands-on training). It is going to be an easy day as long as I get moving!

  3. My plans include keeping the Ziggydog quiet as possible and checking his progress frequently. He is so much happier without that cone on. It makes me anxious a bit, but his joy is more important (to me) than my peace of mind. He was so miserable, knocking into things and unable to rest or enjoy life from beyond the boundaries imposed by that thing. It was fairly big too, I have to wonder if they don’t make a more suitable size for the little fellas. Plus I’ll be monitoring the wind situation, as it’s blowing a real gale out there and although my garbage can hasn’t blown over, a lot of my neighbors’ ones have. I tipped mine so the wheels were contrary to the way the wind is blowing, and I think that’s helped. I’m feeling achy and out of sorts, but have found that’s a reaction to any kind of stress now. I think it’ll be another early night. Congratulations to your Queen and her 95th. That’s quite something! How sad that it comes hard on the heels of her burying her husband though. That has to dim the festivities, doesn’t it? Take care y’all!

    • Maybe a cat’s cone would have been a better fit? However, I remember Barney and Toad were forever bumping into things with it on, so I’m glad you’ve been able to take it off.
