5 Things Tuesday —- 5 Favourite Canned Foods

Nip over to Dr Tanya at Salted Caramel and have some fun with this!

Although it cannot take the place of fresh food, you can’t beat tinned food for convenience. Requiring no special storage conditions and taking up very little storage space, canned food can be a life saver.
Today she asks you to name 5 favourites. These can be ready to eat or ingredients for your recipes.
1. I remember as a kid Mum buying me small tins of Heinz Beans with sausages for the holidays. We had no microwave but it was something I could put in a saucepan and heat for my lunch at an early age as I had already mastered TOAST!
Those sausages had a taste al of their own.

2. Peaches. I love tinned peaches, preferring the slices to halves as you seemed to get more. Great with evaporated milk or ice cream!

3. Corned beef. A good standby for a hash with beans and potatoes, also out of tins by the way.

4. Tapioca pudding. Much as rice pudding is OK, there is something about tapioca, which is delicious hot or cold.

5. Tuna fish. Mix with mash for fish cakes, or use in a freshly baked baguette with mayo. It’s also a good filling for a jacket potato or with salad.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
