This is my choice to reblog today for Sue’s Write Photo challenge.
We had often heard an owl here on our estate, but never saw it until last year, and it is a barn owl.
We have happy memories of a tawny owl family in the silver birch tree in the garden one evening when we were in the cottage. Typical as ever, I didn’t have the camera.

They stood knee deep in the grass and whispered.
‘Somebody’s living there?’ Jeri said.
‘Not somebody, something. Come and look.’
Quietly they moved towards the stone window and peered in.
When her eyes had adjusted, Jeri could hardly contain her gasp of pleasure.
‘Barn Owls!’ she said.
