Welcome to my Take Seven compilation which incorporates all 21 words (or derivatives) from the Three Things Challenge for the past week.
You are most welcome to join in using as many or all of the words too. Just pingback to this post and then leave a link to your post in the comments so that I can see it and respond directly.
As always, have fun, and I hope you enjoy this week’s effort.
Our words were:
background, board, clothes, cold, double, everyone, fitted, gone, granted, hard, hot, hour, jealousy, mentors, modern, radio, sheets, sing, softly, surrounded, wasted
The wind was bitterly cold. There were extra blankets on all the beds, and everyone had a hot water bottle. In their house, double glazing was not the norm, nor was central heating and fitted carpets.
The lounge had a coal fire, and an hour before bed, the bottles were put under the sheets, and doors left open to take the chill off the upstairs rooms.
In that hour though, hot cocoa and cookies were had, and board games played. There was no TV, but a radio could be heard softly in the background. Sometimes, they would gather round and sing.
A family unit of four, two adults, two children, they were happy. They had all the important things, like clothes on their backs, food in their bellies, shoes on their feet, and a roof over their heads, but most importantly, they were surrounded by love.
Nothing was wasted or taken for granted here.
Times were hard compared to their friends perhaps, but there was no jealousy towards those families with their posh cars, fancy clothes, and latest household gadgets.
So when things changed and modern life failed, they were the mentors for their friends. After all, when you didn’t have those things in the first place, you didn’t miss them when they were gone.
