Sunday Writing Prompt – 21st February – Aghast.

Michael is our host for the Sunday Writing Prompt.

Is it shock or amazement when we are confronted with something that simply should not, or could not be?
I have always been told I am very like my mother. Hubby says he sees her instead of me sometimes, and I see her every time I look in a mirror.
I can never remember my Mum having her hair longer than touching her collar, but she is there in my reflection, the eyes, the skin, even the moles on my neck and shoulders.
I’m not aghast exactly, but it does make me look twice sometimes!

This was written in January 2015

Enter into another world
Where right is left,
And left is right,
Where Sun is Moon
And Day is Night.
Arms held open to embrace
The figure on
The other side,
We touch but the gulf
Is way too wide.
This place is strange,
Where cold is warm
And heat is cold,
Pray tell me why
I look so old.
Is this picture one of truth,
Past or Present,
Perhaps my Future’s Reality,
Or is it my Mother
Looking back at me.

We would both have been in our 30s when they were taken.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
