How Important to You Is Your Own Popularity?

How Important to You Is Your Own Popularity?

Is Popularity Important Overall?

There is a line in the film Dave that says something along the lines of
‘I was more intent of being popular that doing what was right’

Everyone likes to be liked, but we cannot be popular all the time. I jokingly say I’m one of the nicest people I know, but I always add that if you don’t like me, that’s fine. Afterall, we cannot be expected to like everyone or be liked by everybody.

Is popularity important? It depends what you want in life. Our politicians aren’t popular. most aren’t liked either, and that also goes for celebrities. Can you be successful by not being popular? Maybe, and though popularity could help you get ‘to the top’, when that popularity dies, you’re likely to fall, and hard.

Always be kind to the little people on the way up, you never know who mght be in line to kick you on the way down.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

The question “which is more important: being popular, or being right?” is an intriguing one. Having myself blogged for almost a decade and a half, with many of my posts railing against injustice and advocating ‘doing the right thing’, it has become very clear to me that popularity and ‘rightness’ are equally important.

Attempting to propagate a message that goes unheard is utterly pointless.
