Song Lyric Sunday 14th February

Jim’s challenge this week:

The human mind must surely be nature’s most astonishing creation. Different thoughts are constantly racing through our minds, jumping around to and from different memories. They could be connected or linked to each other, or they may be random and have nothing to do with each other. Your brain is an organ that learns, designed by evolution to be changed by our experiences, but your mind is the set of faculties including cognitive aspects such as consciousness, imagination, perception, thinking, intelligence, judgement, language and memory, as well as noncognitive aspects such as emotion and instinct. Each one of us has the power to use our mind to change our brain to change our mind. The mind generates thoughts, awareness of consciousness, feelings, will-power, and reminiscence resided in the brain, so it has the ability to understand. The brain is used to remember past events, which can then be synchronized to communicate information or predict the future consequences of our actions, while the mind is utilized to think. Consequently, there is a connection between the mind and brain that enables us to choose before we make decisions.

Last week we had More Colors, and everyone was supposed to choose a song that contained a color in either the title or the lyrics. This week we have the prompts of Brain/Mind/Think and the song that you choose must contain one of these prompt words in either the title or the lyrics.

I originally thought about Kylie with ‘Can’t get you out of my Head but opted instead for Mind Games by John Lennon.
I had just joined a High Street bank when it was released, and it was his only solo single I ever bought. Yoko was never my cup of tea though, and many times I wish I had bought a coop of Imagine instead.

Mind Games” is a song written and performed by John Lennon, released as a single in 1973 on Apple Records. It was the lead single for the album of the same name. The UK single and album were issued simultaneously on November 16, 1973. In the US it peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the Cashbox Top 100. In the UK it peaked at No. 26

We’re playin’ those mind games together
Pushin’ the barriers, plantin’ seeds
Playin’ the mind guerrilla
Chantin’ the mantra, peace on earth

We all been playin’ those mind games forever
Some kinda druid dude liftin’ the veil
Doin’ the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic, the search for the grail

Love is the answer
And you know that for sure
Love is a flower
You gotta let it, you gotta let it grow

So keep on playin’ those mind games together
Faith in the future, outta the now
You just can’t beat on those mind guerrillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind

Yeah, we’re playin’ those mind games forever
Projectin’ our images in space and in time

Yes is the answer
And you know that for sure
Yes is surrender
You gotta let it, you gotta let it go

So keep on playin’ those mind games together
Doin’ the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerrillas
Puttin’ their soul power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playin’ those mind games forever
Raisin’ the spirit of peace and love
Love
I want you to make love, not war
I know you’ve heard it before

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Love is the answer and I think it could solve every problem.

Excellent choice for the prompt. Same vintage as my choice 1973.

  3. Excellent choice! This song really brings back some memories.

  4. I’ve never actually read the lyrics to that song before. Thanks for sharing that and the interesting prompt. I enjoyed the intro. Our brains are fascinating and how wonderful that we can “change our mind.” 😀

Great song, Di. Good choice for today.

  6. Lisa Coleman says:

Great choice and it was popular this weekend! I thought it might be as it came to my mind too. Pun intended. LOL! 🙂
