This week Dr Tanya says:
Most people in the northern hemisphere have at least two months of winter ahead of them. Some even have four to five. Scratchy throats and sniffles are to be expected these days.
Today I ask you to share
5 of your home / kitchen remedies
for these symptoms.
With the colder months taking hold, getting a cold is definitely on the cards.
Usually it boomerangs with one of us getting it at least twice though I tend to get off lightly compared to how Hubby’s fares.
So my favourite 5 Cold Remedies, even though not homegrown, work for me, and as long as I get a good night’s sleep, that’s all the really matters as I’m really crabby when I’m tired.
Lemsips/ hot lemon drink with paracetamol.
Good for bringing down the temperature and soothing the throat. Add a little bit of honey for that extra relief.
On the chest, under the nostrils, the breathing jar helps me cope with that bunged up feeling.
My Dad made this and gave my Grandfather a bottle every year. He didn’t have a cold for years and lived to be 87. His blackberry, black cherry, blackcurrant and sherry also had a similar effect for me, and his elderflower tea with honey was very soothing!
Bought in a tube, suck on one of these and it clears the sinuses a treat.
Milkshake with ice cream
Not a remedy, but it helps the throat and makes me feel better.
