Song Lyric Sunday 17th January

Jim has given us D and J as our theme this week, and I first thought about Rock DJ by Robbie Williams, but that doesn’t start with either of our two letters, so I had to think again.

Instead then, I am going with The King, and Don’t

Recorded in September 1957 (I was 16 months old so hardly an avid fan then) and released in 1958, this is probably not one of his more popular remembered recordings.
It was Presley’s eleventh number-one hit in the United States.
“Don’t” also peaked at number four on the R&B charts.Billboard ranked the ballad as the No. 3 song for 1958

The song was included in the musical revue Smokey Joe’s Cafe, as a medley with “Love Me”, and cleverly used in the key scene of the 1992 film Dave, right at the moment the President of the United States (played by Kevin Kline), has a stroke while making love to a mistress, inside the White House.

Written by: Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller,
Lyrics courtesy

Don’t, don’t, that’s what you say
Each time that I hold you this way
When I feel like this and I want to kiss you
Baby, don’t say don’t

Don’t, don’t leave my embrace
For here in my arms is your place
When the night grows cold and I want to hold you
Baby, don’t say don’t

If you think that this is just a game
I’m playing
If you think that I don’t mean
Every word I’m saying
Don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t
Don’t feel that way
I’m your love and yours I will stay

This you can believe
I will never leave you
Heaven knows I won’t
Baby, don’t say don’t

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Can’t remember hearing this one before, but it sure is a good one. I’ve grown to appreciate his sound/songs over the years, while I didn’t when I was younger. 🙂
