Mindy explained to her exasperating spouse that she had a flat she couldn’t fix.
‘You know how to change it with the spare, so do it,’ he said.
‘I can’t! There is no spare! You didn’t replace it when you had that accident when you were away on business!’
‘Then use the pump and inflate the damn thing!’ he yelled and hung up.
Mindy stood there, tears streaming down her face.
‘Can I help?’ said a female voice behind her.
She sniffed and turned round, wiping her nose on her sleeve.
‘Quite a predicament. Your husband Andy?’
‘Yeah………… how do you know that?’
‘Recognise the car. He didn’t replace the spare then.’
Instantly wary, Mindy stared at her companion.
‘Tabitha, Tabi for short.’ she said holding out her hand. ‘Your husband and I grew up together.’
Tabi spoke into her phone giving their location, then rung off.
‘I’ve got this, so while we’re waiting we’ll go for coffee, OK?’
‘Brother’s got a garage,’ she explained over lattes.
Mindy was silent, her mind going into overdrive.
Tabi watched her face.
‘Ah. Penny’s dropped. Yep, he wasn’t away on business.’
