Her father had taught her well, showing her all the tricks of the trade she would need to entertain her paying audience, knowing she would put her own mark on some to refresh an old idea.
Her hands were enveloped in stretch lace effect gloves which would soon become her trademark.
Arms bare, she knelt on the bed, her father guiding her movements. They were unrushed and graceful.
Sitting in her dressing room years later, she remembered those times, his arms around her, whispering in her ear offering encouragement. She was now very much sought after, an expert and master in her field.
As she took to the stage, she let one hand skim the opposite arm and then did the same with the other.
‘As you can see,’ she said, ‘there is nothing up my sleeve as I’m not wearing any!’
The audience laughed, then watched The Laced Magician work her magic in awe.
Good one Di
