Song Lyric Sunday 3rd January

Jim’s theme this week is P G, and we are to choose a song that begins with either letter.
You can find out more here

The upcoming prompts will be:
January 10, 2021 – MA (title of song must start with the letter M or A)
January 17, 2021 – DJ (title of song must start with the letter D or J)
January 24, 2021 – Chat/Laugh/Rant/Scream/Talk
January 31, 2021 – Even/Odd

My choice today is Pray by Take That.
I was never an avid fan, but I did like a lot of their stuff. I worked with a girl who was besotted by them, following them around to every live venue she could afford, and when they came locally she hid out in the bushes outside their rooms to get an autograph!
She was inconsolable when they split in 1996.

As per WIKI:

Written by Gary Barlow, it was released on 5 July 1993 as the second single from their second studio album, Everything Changes (1993). It is the first of twelve singles by the band to reach number one on the UK Singles Chart, staying at number one for four weeks, and starting a streak of four consecutive number one singles. The song has received a Gold sales status certification and sold over 438,000 copies in the UK, won British Single of the Year and British Video of the Year at the 1994 Brit Awards, and was the finale of Take That’s Beautiful World Tour 2007.

[Verse 1]
When the time grew near
For me to show my love
The longer I stayed away for
Hiding from a word I need to hear now
Don’t think I’ll hear it again (don’t think I’ll hear it again)

[Pre-Chorus]
But the nights were always warm with you
Holding you right by my side (right by my side)
But the morning always comes too soon
Before I even close my eyes (close my eyes)

[Chorus]
All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again some day
All I do each night is think
Of all the times I closed the door to keep my love within

[Verse 2]
If you can’t forgive the past
I’ll understand that
Can’t understand why I did this to you
And all of the days and the nights so I regret it
I never showed you my love (I never showed you my love)

[Pre-Chorus]
But the nights were always warm with you (my love)
Holding you right by my side (right by my side)
But the morning always comes too soon
Before I even close my eyes (close my eyes)

[Chorus]
All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again some day
All I do each night is think
Of all the times I closed the door to keep my love within

[Bridge]
Surely we must be in sight
Of the dream we long to live (we long to live)
If you stop and close your eyes
You’ll picture me inside
I’m so cold and all alone
Straight on back to me

[Chorus]
All I do each night is pray
Hoping that I’ll be a part of you again some day
All I do each night is think
Of all the times I closed the door to keep my love within

[Outro]
Come on
Time is running out
You and me
Harmony
You and me…
You and me..
Forever more
That’s what I told you

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. The group Take That and their song Pray are both new to me, but I like this music. I like the harmonies and I guess this is a love song.

    • Gary Barlow has written some great stuff (and some not so great LOL) but the group did have good harmonies and were around the same time as Boyzone, so these two boy bands were always vying for chart toppers. Bit like Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet in the 70s/80s.
Gary Barlow wrote the theme for the movie Stardust with Michelle Pfeffer and Claire Danes, and also the theme for X-men First Class, so he’s pretty versatile. His love songs are usually very good.
