Tale Weaver – Gift – December 24th

Michaels’ challenge this week :

This week because it is Christmas Eve write about a gift you received or gave.
Or about being gifted in some way.

Over the years, I’ve received some ‘odd’ gifts, like a wine rack and shot glasses when we don’t drink, a selection of videos which we already had, a child’s paint by numbers kit, and a 1000 piece jigsaw the original owners gave up on.
We regifted the paint by numbers by doing it and framing it, then gave it back to the person who gave it to us (I don’t think they saw the joke), and the 1000 piece puzzle we  completed, framed and returned that to the original giver. We recycled the other items as raffle prizes for a charity fund raiser.

This brings me nicely to the subject of raffles, and the fact that gifts from my MIL were often raffle prizes. I knew this was the case as the ticket number was still in the box on one, and another time she asked me what on earth would she want with a blue powder puff and talc that she’d won at bingo! I said she could always give it to me for Christmas, and she actually did.  Nothing was used you understand, and I was always glad to be remembered, but the blue powder puff was definitely the best………… because I was so genuinely pleased with it, my reaction knocked her for six!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Too funny I used to know as a kid what I was getting sorta until I forgotten about it and got surprised sometimes 😅

Great response Di there have been a few occasions in my life where I think I have been given re-gifted items. Today is Christmas day down here, it looks like being a good one.

Lol. I would not be pleased with a gift from a raffle! But I guess its the thought that counts! 😁

It is always fun when you get the perfect gift (given or received). I think the best gift I ever gave was a hand carved Teak walking stick that converted to a two piece pool cue. My dad loved it. After he died my mother insisted I have it back. It is in my closet. It has a brass knob that is a lethal weapon should there ever be an intruder!! One of the best gifts I ever received was a huge jewelry armoire from my husband. I love it! (now I just need to fill it with sparkles and gold)

    • Hubby made me a bird table one year. We were broke, and he’d put it together. I insisted on ‘planting’ it Christmas morning. When we came back from a walk, a cat was sitting in it!! Hubby rectified that by putting nails up the stand. Happy days!

Haha! This must have had her bamboozled. I see no harm in re-gifting as long as you don’t tell them. That spoils the fun.
