I admit to not being the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree, or the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I am totally bewildered by activity on my blog and the subsequent 121 notifications to comments that came into my email this afternoon.
I love to hear from my readers.
I love the participation from readers with the Three Things Challenge, Fibbing Friday and my Take Seven posts.
I love it when somebody likes what I’ve written.
But I am as confused as hell that someone has been through my blog today and ‘liked’ nearly 70 comments made by myself or other people on posts.
I appreciate them being read, and liking of several, but all of them? What gives?
I blog for fun, not for stat numbers.

I have a few of these, mostly from the eastern part of the year. Yesterday, one hit 27 posts. This person was selling trips is part the. Someone hit a number of posts and they are selling washing machines.
It’s sad isn’t it. Think I’ll have to start putting a disclaimer on my posts about advertisers.
I know it can be very annoying! I had someone liking almost every comment I made on several different posts all of the time! My comments may be brilliant (When and if I comment) but REALLY!!!!!!!
Your comments are brilliant Jen, mine aren’t and today was just too much.
That’s not true. Your comments are very supportive.
Someone suggested it is a way to get followers. But its mean and floods our mail.
I asked someone (a “Friend”) if they’d read some stories I’d written on a new site I had specifically for those stories. Next thing I know within a minute or two I had likes on all of them flooding my email. They weren’t even read. To me that was uncalled for and wished I’d never asked them. I’m thinking about taking that site down.
Thank you regarding my comments. I try to be honest.
Some of the followers I get are just commercial sites touting for business and I delete the same old ones every day.
Wow
That’s why I started closing posts to comments after 30 days. It’s most likely spam.
I might try that Maggie. Thanks.
I picked up a ‘blogger’ recently, who has gone through and liked most of the stuff I’ve written for the past two years! I just delete the emails, and don’t open them. I fear a spammer or someone selling something. It’s sad when that happens, but the disclaimer will hopefully at least stop some of it. P.S. You’re a GREAT blogger, why wouldn’t you get dozens of likes?? 😉
Ha, you are so kind Melanie. I love the likes on my posts and get a fair few, but likes on comments, and so many in one day by one person? Not a single like on a post by the way.
I clear my emails every day as they are usually just notifications. Personal stuff goes somewhere else.
Have you changed something in your settings? You do write a lot too.
No. I’ve noticed this guy before but not quite so many as today. Some were four or five comments on one post and he just ‘liked’ the lot. Must admit, I am a bit of a windbag sometimes!!
That happens to me also and they not only like my posts, but them they like all the comments also. I actually hate this as if somebody can like 5 of my posts in the same minute, then I know for sure that they didn’t read them.
likewise Jim.
I have not been on my blog until really late in the day of late and I have noticed this strange activity too. I agree it a pain!
Hope all OK Willow. The current situation is depressing for everyone.
Yes indeed it is 💜💜
You’ve been spammed!
big time
I wouldn’t know if someone likes my comments. I’ve turned off those notifications.
Good for you. How did you do it???
In the settings, there is option to select which notifications you get via email. I have unchecked all of them except new followers. That way I can check those guy’s sites. No other notifications via email. I get notifications through my WP reader.
I will try it, though I think we already have.
Do, it just frees up a lot of space
Yep. I got the same thing – every comment I’ve ever made on your posts was liked with a email notification from Operation X. And the thing is they don’t even have a WP account! I just deleted the comments. So annoying!
Same guy. I deleted everything in my email notifications.
I reckon it’s the WP Elves drumming up traffic.
Btw, have you noticed the new “native sponsored posts” appearing amongst your posts, Di? It’s happening on all free plan blogs now and I expect it’s going to get worse. I’m even tempted to pay now but I keep seeing negative views from those who do pay, so is it worth it?
Hi Ian, can’t say I have. What exactly are they Ian? I’ve added a notice about adverts to my front page as I couldn’t afford to change to a paying site, so I’m stuffed.
Basically, it’s an advert which looks just like a post and appears in our blogs unless we pay for a plan.
I feel it’s like those ads you see in newspapers which are made to look like articles written by the paper.
If you view your blog on the web, you might see them. I have on mine.
I’m glad I’ve put my notice on about adverts then.
No, yours hasn’t got one, Di. I remember I had a message the day before they appeared. If you haven’t had a message, it might not happen yet. 🙂
Yay……….. not. 😦
I’m probably late but just wanted to say this is probably why they recommend auto closing comments after 30 days to avoid spam or just slowing down the site. Best of luck to you
I will look into that. Thank you
