Saturday Mix – Opposing Forces, 21 November 2020

Sarah is our host for the Saturday Mix challenge.

“Welcome to the Saturday Mix, 21 November 2020!
 This week we are dipping our toes into the pool of OPPOSITES. Our challenge is all about “opposing forces” and the use of antithesis in our writing. You will need to use the two opposing words in your response – which can be poetry or prose.

save and spend
shallow and deep “

Over the years, I have always preferred to save my money rather than spend it unnecessarily. This goes back a long way, and the one time I saved nothing one month and spent the lot, I cried, as I had nothing to show for it!!

I have loved and lost many times during my life. It was all part of life’s tapestry as some of the relationships before were shallow and selfish, but I learned a lot about people as well as myself. Now I can truly appreciate the deep feelings, love and emotion I share with my Hubby. We are blessed to have each other.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    I apologize if this is a duplicate comment. WordPress has been particularly odious over the past couple of days.
    Never was good at saving. I know now that ADHD played a part in this. I also learned a lot of bad habits from my family, who tended to buy things on a whim. I try to save a little these days, but it’s an uphill battle.

      These days, it’s not easy to save, and even if you can, the ‘reward’ of interest rates is an insult.
      As a kid, I was always making money boxes out of LEGO, which is why working in various banks for over 20 years was not surprising! All my working life revolved around figures, but I always remembered what my Dad said when I asked if I could have a new record player for my 13th birthday: he said Of course, I could have anything I wanted provided I saved for it, and it stuck. Yes, I did get my record player, and later updated it, but by the time I’d saved enough for that one, it had reduced in price so I had some money left to buy LPs, but even then I didn’t spend it all. Old habits I guess, and it’s the same now.

    I like to save money also! It feels good to do it!
