MLMM Music Challenge #169

This week Jim has chosen Rolling in the Deep by Adele for his fortnightly post.
Congratulations to Jen Goldie who designed the new MLMM music challenge banner.
To date, this is not my favourite Adele song. I loved Sky Fall for the James Bond movie of the same name, as it seemed to revert back to the themes we were used to, like Diamonds are Forever, Goldfinger, and Thunderball.
But that isn’t my favourite either.

Adele told in an interview that the title of the song came to her in the middle of the night when she got up for a wee.

“This song is about the contradictions that are in relationships. I was really, really heartbroken when I met who the song is about, and he kind of brought me back to life, and put me back together and… he was a dickhead as well.” – Adele.

The song has peaked at number one in 6 countries, including US Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it became Adele’s third consecutive number one single from the album “21”.

Lyrics and fun facts courtesy azlyrics.com

I let it fall, my heart
And as it fell, you rose to claim it
It was dark, and I was over
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me

My hands, they were strong
But my knees were far too weak
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your feet

But there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you’d play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

When I lay with you
I could stay there
Close my eyes
Feel you here forever
You and me together
Nothing is better

‘Cause there’s a side to you
That I never knew, never knew
All the things you’d say
They were never true, never true
And the games you’d play
You would always win, always win

But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name!

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When it fell, something died
‘Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time!

Sometimes I wake up by the door
That heart you caught must be waiting for you
Even now, when we’re already over
I can’t help myself from looking for you

I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Well, it burned while I cried
‘Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name

I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
When it fell, something died
‘Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time, oh!

Oh, no
Let it burn, oh
Let it burn
Let it burn

I don’t have a single recording by her other than Rolling in the Deep as per Jin’s post and Sky Fall, both of which Hubby put on a USB stick to play in the card along with some of his other favourite music.

Adele is what people of my age group would probably call A Belter. I love her voice and her music, so maybe I should at least invest in a Greatest Hits album.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
