Today is Friday, 30th October

How is your day going? It’s late afternoon here and we’ve had a pretty busy day.
We went into town to do some monthly bulk shopping and judging by the contents of people’s trolleys and depleting shelves, they are getting ready for lockdown.
Now, from what we can understand, our immediate area is in Tier 1, and according to the local media and our County Council is likely to stay that way for some considerable while.
However, there is always a knock on effect and when you can’t get what you want locally, you go elsewhere……………… which means our little town will have an influx of shoppers and supplies here will diminish again.
Today we stocked up with our monthly supply of UHT milk (stocks dwindling), some dog chews which have been in short supply recently, dried apricots, tinned rice pudding as it is only 20p a tin compared to 33p here, and shortbread biscuits as they are 10p a pack cheaper being on special offer there. We discovered years ago that if you are ‘shopper aware’, you can see the trend for special offers on common things so can do the rounds accordingly, that is of course if you have the time and means to shop around and don’t have to worry about having kids in tow. Hubby is quite partial to his biscuits and these aren’t upsetting his digestive system.
As we were in town, we visited the butcher for sausages and I purchased 4 each of 5 different varieties and froze them down, except the two we had for lunch today and Maggie’s chipolatas, so our meat drawer in the freezer is now well stocked.

Our neighbour came in for a cup of tea this afternoon and stayed for an hour. I am glad she has started to come in again, and also that she has received other invitations from friends in the road and is taking them up.

So far, it has been a pretty good day and I’m now going to settle back with my blog. Hubby is out tonight so it’s just me and Maggie. I’ve walked her and she’s done a wee, so should be OK now until Hubby gets home.
Keep safe everyone.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

We are in tier 3 in Nottinghamshire as of after midnight tonight.
I had what I needed earlier in the week and don’t need basics until probably Monday earliest. But might be Wednesday I can push it.
I was in the supermarket Thursday though, helping my bubble I am with since Coronavirus ever came about and it was crazy in there as I expected.
I ended up having a bit of a panic attack in the end, because it was all too much with not feeling I am getting the space we should be doing. It was visually too much too.
I warned my neighbour I wouldn’t be in there tomorrow if they were planning on wanting in there. I avoid Saturdays before all this, so definitely avoiding with the situation now.
He felt the same and said to his mts I am not going in there Saturday, when shopping was once talked about.

    • Keep safe Liz. We have been reading about your area as Hubby went there for his recent op, so you can imagine our anxiety levels rocketed. Social distancing just isn’t happening anywhere now from what we can see, and if you make space, someone comes along and invades it.

  3. I too have seen Stockpiling. I shop online and things that were available as little as six weeks ago are fast disappearing. Tinned goods mostly. Here is Sandwich we are far enough away from London and l don’t think we are going to be threatened , but you can never tell. As careful as l am, l see some absolute lunatics in the street, completely oblivious to social distancing!

Although l am not officially and notably stockpiling, l have been over the last few months ordering small additions of things … in case there is a problem.

So glad you were able to stock the freezer and prepare for lockdown. I feel sorry for those who don’t have the space to stock up…
