The road reflected her life,
Empty, devoid of other people.
No traffic or interest,
Silence and a misty horizon.
The peripheral vision was blinkered,
Bordered by trees and fences,
Forcing her eyes to focus ahead.
Should darkness fall,
Would a light shine to show her the way?
Would she muddle through,
Proceed regardless and forever forward.
No side tracking,
Or temptation to drift from the path,
Everything channelled
On a slight incline,
Dividing lines mocking in parallel,
Never to meet,
Overlap or be intersected.
No companionship,
Lonely, endless.
The road reflected her life,
But what may lie over the hill?

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. We are all hoping that over the hill brings us some joy.

  2. Wow, Di, you outdid yourself on this one! How you use the road as a metaphor for her life…great!

  3. Bikurgurl says:

That proverbial light at the end of the tunnel – I’m so happy you saw this image as hopeful! Being mentally bedraggled by the chaos of the US presidential election, I’m less hopeful – I see it as a raging fire of death at the end. Dystopian future today šŸ˜‰

Thank you so much for joining us again this week šŸ–¤

  4. Sadje says:

    One never knows!

  5. Carol anne says:

very good di! Great take on the prompt! šŸ˜ā¤
