Today is Monday 7th September

For a change, it’s raining. Hubby cut the grass back and front yesterday and that always has the kiss of bad weather on it. No dancing naked round oak trees at midnight required, just cut the grass, wash the windows or the car and voila, it gets wet.
Mixed bag today. Hubby has had his blood test which was brought forward because our usual nice nurse has been taken poorly and all appointments rescheduled. Luckily we have another equally nice nurse and she saw to Hubby more or less as soon as he drew up in the car park.
With the Covid figures for new cases rising rapidly daily here in the UK (2,988 yesterday), we are going through the motions, fully expecting a cancellation nearer the time.

We had our phone bill yesterday and had another shock as it was more expensive than last month. even though we have made a conscious effort NOT to use it unless absolutely necessary. Hubby downloaded the bill and we have been charged £25 for our landline rental/Broadband instead of the expected £18 on the new contract. Phone calls equated to £6, only one of which was to the doctor’s surgery (£1.80), four to the bank and a couple of extras. Add the tax, and it put us way over budget again. We dug out the paperwork and alarms started ringing as there was nothing to say our charges would be £25, and the way things were worded suggested that our new contract starting on Sept 8th had been removed as an option.
We got on the phone first thing and after Hubby had gone through the red tape Q&A, handed it over to me.
Turns out we DO have a fixed contract of £18 pm for 18 months starting from tomorrow, but because the bill was generated before it started that great computer programme automatically charged us for the full amount pro rata after our existing contract ends for the next month rental. I confirmed our contract three times with the operative and the necessary adjustment will be made next month where we shall see our monthly rental paid in advance correctly as £18, plus a refund for the overcharge. What a palaver.

I posted off 12 cards to my Aunt today, checked the bank balances, and now we are waiting in for some stuff Hubby’s ordered. Lunch today is pasty and beans for Hubby and a baked potato and beans for me. Get this, four prepacked baked potatoes were £1.19 in the supermarket. I picked out 3 for myself this week, total cost 44p, as they were 50p a kilo. Where’s the maths??
Weigh in tonight. Wish me luck as I’ll be posting the result, good or bad, later.

Keep safe everyone.

I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

talking of cards – with me being unable to get to a shop to buy a birthday card for hubby for later this week and an anniversary card I went to Amazon UK and ordered the two cards to arrive by tomorrow. I know that hubby would pick them up so it couldn’t really have been a surprise, but imagine my shock when the price on the order that I had placed was £84.99. I almost fell to the floor in shock and wondered what on earth had gone wrong. In the end I had to call Holtby up for him to look and see what had gone so very wrong. As I was describing to him what happened he yelled at me to just leave everything and he seemed to know what it was about . What had happened was that he had to put into the basket some wooden planters to go in front of our front window. They are on legs raised up from the ground and he had intended to plant some lavender and various other smelly plants especially for me as I can’t see things but can smell them. He had however just placed the order in the basket and not clicked on by now as he was still thinking about it. Anyway in the end everything was alright because we both decided that it would be a lovely thing to have and he had already ordered lavender plants and some time plants as well strangely this is due to arrive on his birthday on Friday so everything has worked out good in the end – though I considered the planters to be very expensive, as did hubby, which was why he was just thinking about it rather than buying. Anyway, they are very special ones made out of Scots Pine, and quite large. But can you IMAGINE my shock when two cards came to £84.99. I nearly had a heart attack!

  3. All I have to do is water the flowers and for sure it will rain. Or wash the car (I rarely do that!). Or plan something outside. Good luck for hubby. Hope all goes well and is surgery is scheduled and really happens.

The phone contract are so confusing and you have to watch them like a hawk or they will charge all kinds of things! Glad you were able to sort it out!

    • Their wording is very misleading, but the options we had were only valid until our contract ran out, but their confirmation of acceptance didn’t actually say that!!! Grrrrrr 🙂

Hi I am running so behind reading posts! I think I read how you got on at weight watchers yesterday but not this one. So well done! As for phone companies you have to watch them like a hawk ! 💜
