Song Lyric Sunday 6th September

Jim has given us this theme today ‘Musical/Opera’.

I have never really been an opera fan, even though I enjoyed the movie ‘Tommy’ and bought the soundtrack.
I liked the old musicals though, and most of the music I play is from that era.
There are so many to choose from, classic Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, Les Miserables and Mamma Mia.

I’m going with this from the 1945 musical Carousel.
The song is sung at association football clubs around the world, where it is performed by a massed chorus of supporters on match day; this tradition developed at Liverpool F.C. after the chart success of the 1963 single of the song by the local Liverpool group Gerry and the Pacemakers. In some areas of the UK and Europe, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” became the anthem of support for medical staff, first responders, and those in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has even more special memories for me as it was the final song Mum chose for her funeral service, and I sang every word.

You’ll Never Walk Alone (From ”Carousel”)

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Walk on, through the wind
Walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone
Never walk alone

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  2. It’s a beautiful song and so special to you.

    • very Gary. I sang every word at Mum’s funeral, both the hymns (The Lord’s my Shepherd and Abide with Me) plus Unchained Melody at the beginning and this at the end. I read my poem, and sang my heart out for her.
