It’s been a good day today

Towards the end of the day, Hubby and I ask each other if it’s been a good day.
It’s not necessarily down to achievements or the weather, but an overall feeling of simply ‘feeling good’.

Regular readers will know of our frustrations with holidaymakers, getting DIY supplies and shopping, but even then, Hubby and I are good. The house is up together, the dog is her usual self (a pain sometimes, but our pain and we love her), the veg is finally doing something…… we actually have a runner bean in the greenhouse on a plant that had crept up the sides using the chrysanths as a ladder, and now has its own little woolly trellis to multiply itself.  As for the three plants outside on the tripod, we have a bean on one of those too and they have finally cottoned on that they are supposed to go UP not sideways.
And as for our roses? Well, they are still going and we have even more buds!

We don’t do much, even less since Covid-19 intruded unwanted and unbidden into everyone’s lives, but as a rule, for us every day ends on a good note.
Today is pay day, so naturally a good way to start the day!
Armed with our rather long shopping list, we set off early and arrived at the first shop shortly before 9 am. It was relatively quiet and I got everything I needed in there, including a couple of thing for ‘store’ as I noticed the heavy duty kitchen rolls were in short supply (I had the last 2), and they had sold out of both the shampoo and shower cream I prefer.
Next stop was equally quiet and I was out in ten minutes. We got fuel which is still sensibly priced before our Chancellor puts it up 5p a litre to claw back some revenue to pay for Covid and the government’s handouts.
Hubby went into the final supermarket, and his experience wasn’t so tranquil. In fact, he said he lost it with two people and ended up just pushing his way through to the checkouts because people were not only chatting in the aisles as they browsed, but some were leaving their loaded trolleys on one side whilst they perused the shelves or cooler cabinets on the other!

We’ve stocked up with everything though and won’t have to get anything else for at least 2 weeks. Total bill today was £73, so that’s about half of our monthly food budget.
So, it has indeed been a good day, and for a change I won our darts matches 2 games to 1!

Ah, dog has raised her sleepy head so time for her final walk, then bed.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Sounds like not just a good day but a really productive one! All the shopping for 2 weeks – done! The runner beans going up and Maggie getting her walks in sounds wonderful. But winning at darts is the pinnacle and a great way to wrap up the day!

  6. It sounds like an overall good day
