‘Dad? Can you help me with my homework please?’
‘Sure son. We’ll sit down together after dinner. Fish fingers tonight, your favourite.’
Tommy brushed the fringe out of his eyes and began to fill his plate.
‘You’ve made enough to feed twenty of us Dad! Are we expecting visitors?’
‘No, I got distracted and forgot to finish putting the shopping away. We can’t freeze something that has been defrosted and you know how your mother hates waste.’
‘I follow you. Do you know where she’s gone tonight?’
‘Yeah, it’s a hen party for that flirt two doors down. Your Mum forged a friendship with her sister at school which is how she got invited. No doubt the wine will flow and they’ll all have a merry time. Now what’s your homework tonight?’
‘I have to write a short essay about FIBERS, though it would be easier if there was an extra B in it and I could write about fibbers as I know a lot of those. You’re in the carpet business, so you’re the perfect person to ask!’
‘OK. Shall we make it a wool carpet or synthetic?……………’
