Today is Monday 17th August

The sun is shining, it’s very hot at 22º C indoors, and town is heaving.
We had to go out this morning as Hubby needed some new shoes. He wears steels as a matter of course, and locally they had size 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12, but no size 10 and no idea when they would be getting new stock. That was three weeks ago. He tried last week and it was the same story.
So, off to another town where the branch just happens to be opposite that nice butcher, and he got exactly what he wanted in the correct size. The rub is, you can’t try them on as there are no seats in the shop! How weird is that? You buy them, take them home and if they don’t fit, have to take them back!
Apparently a lady was buying shoes for her daughter for school and was stunned that she wasn’t able to try them on. If this is the way forward with clothes/shoe shopping, no wonder High Street store chains are closing as there is little in store and you’re being advised to shop on-line instead.
And yes, he did buy some sausages which are in packs of two in the freezer.

Anyway, coming home we had to stop at the supermarket for bleach and a few bits, so Hubby went in leaving me in the car with Maggie. No multivitamins on the shelves again, little choice of fruit, though he did get a bag of carrots and some green beans together with two sandwich baguettes, the total bill coming to £3.22.

Lunch today was chili and rice, plus the extra veg for me. I checked in the SW Bible this morning and I seem to have come way off track, so rather than follow the guidance for maintaining my weight with extra As, Bs and syns which I found even more difficult to manage, I’m going back to basics as a newbie and hope I can get things under control.  There are no biscuits, cakes or ice cream in the house so as long as I don’t buy any, we’re halfway there.

I’ve done two loads of washing which is out on the line and almost dry, and this afternoon has been spent being Hubby’s gopher as he had some guttering to sort out. The rainwater hadn’t been draining into the water butts outside and it seems we had a blockage. That blockage also revealed a broken connection, so it was a full repair job.
Wheelie bins and planks make good scaffolding.

So here we are at 4 pm and I have just settled down to access my blog.
Hope your day is good, ours has actually been pretty positive and productive.
Keep safe and well.

We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Oh, that sucks that there wasn’t a w ay for hubby to try on his new shoes before buying them. That’s a shame and I totally understand why brick and mortar stores are closing fast now.

Good luck on your SW journey! I’ve never tried it as quite frankly I think even the online program is way too expensive. I really need to lose weight though.

    • Hi Astrid.
The shoes fit, so no return journey which is a plus.
I originally joined SW in 2016 on a free 12 week introduction course through my GP surgery and lost almost 3 stone .
I stopped going for a while as we moved then started again in May last year, losing the stone and a half I’d put back on and reached target in August. I haven’t had to pay since. There are no group meetings at the moment because of Covid, but I text my weight in every week as I’m not set up for Zoom. SW worked for me as although I had the right idea about fruit and veg, it gave me guidance for quantities. There are some ‘healthy’ personal recipes here in my blog for main meals that are classed as ‘free’ because they contain the ‘good stuff’ as recommended by SW. Trying to lose weight (and maintain it actually) is hard work until you get into the new eating habits, then you automatically gauge what you can and can’t have, though with SW, you can have practically anything, but some come at a cost!!

Sounds like a busy day – but at least Hubby found the boots!
The not-trying-on is daft! Here, they drown your hands in sanitizer before you’re allowed in a shop and then you can touch what you want. – Works so far.

  3. I sounds like a good day. Our clothing and shoes stores also seem to have very limited stock. I can’t get any short pants for my sons which is rather a nuisance as it is already hot here. My older son’s current shorts look like rags.

    • I have no idea what size I am now as it fluctuates so much, though most times I;m wearing men’s joggers and men’s tee shirts as they are more generous where it counts!!!

Glad you’ve had a productive day and your hubby managed to get his shoes.

I know shops that have closed their cubicles so you can’t try on clothes, which I expected and understand. But not being able to try on shoes. Now that is a little surprising.

I have never been able to purchase shoes online – I must try them on! I’m hoping the brick and mortar stores persist at least through my lifetime!! Hope the gutter issue is sorted out soon.

    • Gutter is sorted, shoes fit, and I’m with you with shoe shopping, though I used to do all my clothes and shoe shopping by mail order (the old fashioned on-line with a catalogue!)

On the whole a good day 💜☀️☀️
