Rory is asking if it’s time to mask up or not.
On the 24th July, so next Friday now – new legislation in the UK means the wearing of face masks will become mandatory in shops – as in it will become law – no choice – you have to do it. Failure to comply will result in a £100 fine for non-compliance and will be enforced by the police as well as staff in the shops themselves.
Note: my readers might remember this post
Now the question is actually two fold about masks … with a twist.
1] Are you currently wearing face masks when you go out into public wherever you are in the world and 2] what type of masks are you wearing? [As in practical or stylish?]
Also – how do you feel about the wearing of masks? Do you see it as a protection or an infringement on your civil rights?
Hubby and I wear a mask whenever we go into a shop or walk along the High Street.
I wasn’t comfortable with it as I don’t like things on my face, but needs must and it’s not as if I have to wear one 24/7. However, with so many visitors coming to the town bringing with them heaven knows what, I wouldn’t NOT mask up now.
Ours are FFP3 (fold flat protection factor 3), though Hubby has also made us a couple in case we run out
As to part two of Rory’s question, I’m tired of people bleating on about infringements of their civil rights. If a mask offers protection in today’s current situation, then it is foolish not to want to protect yourself. But then it’s your choice…………… at the moment.
Oh, and I should add that I suppose I’m a baby boomer having been born in 1956. It would appear that around us, people in our age group are masking up and it is the younger generations (20s and 30s) who are not.
I can’t stand hearing people complain about it. If it is something that helps slow this virus down to get to an end, just do it. Look at China. They wear them all the time for I don’t know how long it has been. I don’t like it either but it isn’t about civil liberties
With you on that.
You’re absolutely right, the people of our generation are more careful and sensible. We are wearing masks more than younger people
They seem to think they’re invincible.
They are so wrong.
C-19 doesn’t care how old you are (sigh…. if only they realised that)
You’re right. If only they did.
I wear it in public places and outdoors if people are close-by. At this point I would walk upside down on my hands to get this virus to disappear off the face of the earth
I’m with you, but know I’d never keep my balance! Common sense should prevail, but sadly that seems lacking. Keep safe.
Boomers are the ones that need the most protection right now.
The majority are certainly taking more risks
So many whiners here. Imagine if they were drafted or had to work in a factory all day. Waaah! Gee a mask, so difficult…
I belong to the younger generation and I’m someone who’s all for wearing the mask. I wear it all the time at work but I’m constantly shocked that many are blatantly refusing to wear masks
good for you Shweta. It’s a shame people don’t see it that some protection is better than none at all
Over here if you don’t wear one in shops and on public transport its a 2500 euro fine! Eeek! I do wear one when out and about! Better to be safe, I say!
good for you. keep safe.
An excellent answer Di – the article l read – l doubt was written by a Baby Boomer either – you and l are both BB’s the author to the article l doubt it. But here is the article. I have noticed like you that if anything it’s actually the BB’s that do tend to wear masks coverings.
