Friday 3rd July

Just made it to morning after a bad night with Maggie. Not that she was poorly, but it was so hot and stuffy, even with the windows slightly open, she was panting. I let her out at 3.15 and she did a huge wee, then we went back to bed and I put the fan on. It seemed to help, but I got chilled, so had to turn it off after an hour. She settled beside me closest to the window and slept until almost 7. Hubby was already up so let her out and I went back to sleep until 9.30!!

I’ve had a shower and washed my hair, turning the pressure up and letting the hot water pummel my back. It seems better today. I’ve creamed it and will take the painkillers again today as they did help. We won’t be doing very much though.
We’re just about to take Maggie for her first walk of the day (11.35!!) as there’s a gap in the rain and we might just make it without getting wet!

Lunch today is fish for me, but after the last two pieces, Hubby isn’t keen so I shall do something else to go with his wedges and peas.

Keep safe everyone.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Sorry you had a bad night. We’ve had heat warnings here for about a week now and I think it’s even worse in the UK. But I am glad to hear you feel like your back is getting better. Hope you can take it easy today.

Take care. Hope you’re a 100% okay soon.

Yes, it’s funny weather. I remember partly feeling hot, or cold in the night. So I bet I was tossing and turning a little, either blankets on, or off.

I have had salmon and chips today. Originally, I was going to do salmon, veg and pasta, but I was in a ‘I can’t be bothered’ mode.

  4. HUGS and wishing cooler breezes for all of you. For those that do and take care of others, nothing is worse or more bothersome than back pain. Take care and try to rest. Paw waves and sympathy sent

  5. Have you ever tried to put ice cubes in Maggie’s water? WE did with our dogs and it helped.

  6. Poor Maggie. I hope she feels a lot better, and her mistress too! Muggy rain is horrible stuff. I’ve noticed that if one or the other (or both) boys need to take care of business and don’t want to go out for whatever reason (it’s raining or the sprinklers have come on at the wrong hour again or whatever), they’ll pant and they are very restless, so Ms. Maggie was obviously letting y’all know she was in discomfort. I’m surprised you dared to have fish again. Unless you scored a fresh piece locally or something that is. After your post on that nasty breaded stuff you got, I’d have been put off and I LOVE fish. Sounds like all is going pretty well overall though!

    • Whenever I did fish for Hubby, I’d have a tomato pasta instead, so today was my turn for fish. Three bad hits out of three meals and no contest, it’s all been binned and we won’t be buying it from that shop again. I have an alternative lined up so we shall buy one pack and see how that goes. From what I remember, the portions were smaller, but they were OK. We think the manufacturer has changed suppliers as the quality wasn’t so good either.
