More roses………. and dinner

Our red In Loving Memory is glorious, and a second bud is coming out.
This is the original bloom on June 14th.

I took this picture of it yesterday
That’s my hand on the left so you can get an idea of how big it is. The fragrance is lovely.

There were four buds in all, and the second is now coming into its own.
These were both taken with my phone.

As to the other part of my title, I settled on a chicken salad for me and Hubby had a traditional pasty with baked beans. Our potatoes were delicious, though Hubby just had the largest as he did have a whole tin of beans!
No doubt the after effects will become apparent later!

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Beautiful. I have never had luck with roses coming back. I have bought some and for the season they are beautiful but that is it. I don’t think they like my soil. Maybe the PH levels or something. That and the deer eat them!

    • We have a second showing in progress on our yellow Peace rose too. Our soil is clay here so not that good, and last year with the heat and wet weather, everything suffered. We cut our roses right back to the newest growth and it’s paid off. Apparently we made the mistake of watering from the top of the plant when it needed it, not the bottom.

      • That is probably part of my problem. I love roses and have planted them a few times but never really looked into what needed to be done. You see, here, you walk into The Home Depot and you are treated like a professional, or they like to make you feel like that, so you get home, plant your plants, next thing you know…dead.

      • I’m no good with plants as a rule. The Ancient Mariner (our pink bush) just keeps going
