The Green Shoes

They were very smart green suede shoes with a modest heel and looked comfortable.
They have been following me.

It started in the car park when a lady walked past me to get a trolley. I was fumbling around for my coin and looking down noticed her shoes. Nice, I thought.
Inside the foyer, she was cleaning the handle of her trolley and I waited until she’d finished before going inside, social distancing and all that. She saw me waiting and I said no problem there was no rush, which she seemed to take as sarcasm (it wasn’t) and hurried off.
I went inside and did the same thing giving the handle a couple of squirts and a quick wipe down. She was doing her shopping up and down the aisles, and I thought no more of it.
I got what I wanted, paid for my items and went back to the car.

Sitting in the car park of the next supermarket, I noticed a pair of green suede shoes and recognised the woman. She went through the same procedure of wiping down her trolley before going inside about three people after Hubby. I didn’t see her come out.

At our final supermarket, those green shoes were behind us, but this time there were no cleaning stuffs to hand and she went in without a trolley, so possibly picked up a basket instead.

I could get paranoid and think she was following us, but this is not the first time I have ‘picked out’ someone in a supermarket and then seen them in every other one we’ve been in. Obviously they spread the cost of their shopping as we do.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Haha, I thought this would have a different ending!

  3. I’ve had that happen. Before lockdown, I would see the same people in each of the thrift stores I went to. Even in the same order. It was a little odd to me.

Hehe! Sometimes those kind of things happen. It is always nicer when you can acknowledge each other with a smile and a friendly word… Then again some folks resesnt being addressed by strangers – there are so many suspicious persons. It is a symptom of the times!
