I nominate myself for today’s theme ā Maria/Marie/Mary – as my middle name is Mary after my maternal grandmother who sadly died four years before I was born.

I could go with Maria from the Sound of Music as I’ve seen that film so many times I could probably act it on my own.
There’s Proud Mary and Arms of Mary, but I’m going with this from Paint Your Wagon sung by Harve Presnell.
They Call the Wind Mariah
written by Alan J. Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe for their 1951 Broadway musical, Paint Your Wagon, which is set in the California Gold Rush.

Way out west, they got a name
For rain and wind and fire
The rain is Tess, the fire’s Joe and
They call the wind Mariah
O no, Mariah blows the stars around
And sends the clouds a-flying
Mariah makes the mountain sounds
Like folks were up there dying
Mariah, They call the wind Mariah
Now before I knew Mariahs name
And heard her wail and whining
I had a girl and she had me
And the sun was always shining
O, but then one day I left my girl
I left her far behind me
And now I’m lost, I’m oh so lost
Not even God can find me
Mariah, O, Mariah, They call the wind Mariah
I hear they got a name for rain
And wind and fire only
But when you’re lost and all alone
There ain’t no words but lonely
And I’m a lost and lonely man
Without a star to guide me
Mariah, blow your love to me
I need my girl beside me
Mariah, O, Mariah
I’m lonely can’t you see
Mariah, O, Mariah
Please blow my love to me
Mariah, blow my love to me
One of my favourite oldies, I haven’t seen this film in years…
Wonderful to see those lyrics written down…
Love the song
This was one of my mums favourite movies.
It’s a great song, and one I haven’t played for ages.
Another favorite that brings good memories to mind. And, oh my goodness! I’d forgotten how hot Harve was back in the day! š
I remember the film pretty well, but it was one that wasn’t on the small screen all that often compared with The Sound Of Music.
No, it wasn’t. My dad was a big fan of westerns and I remember watching it a couple of times with him on weekend afternoons, but after that was only able to catch it late night on cable. I received a DVD copy from my children a few years back, and not sure where you’re located, but it’s also available for Amazon Prime customers to stream. š
Sadly musicals are not Hubby’s cup of tea, he’s into the old B&W films and I don’t watch a lot these days.
Brilliant song big , lived the video than you š
Great choice and way to give yourself kuddos! Lovin’ it! š So sorry you didn’t get to know your grandmother for whom you were named. š¦
I didn’t know either as my Dad’s Mum died when he was about 5. I had my paternal great grandparents though and happy memories of them.
Mariah Carey was named after this song. Great movie with Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin and Jean Seberg. The reason the wind is called Moriah is, because of a mountain in Jerusalem the one where Abraham almost scarified Isaac, and various other events took place there.
I read that about Mariah Carey too. Must admit I’m not that much of a fan of her warblings though I’m not knocking her popularity.
Holy moly what a voice! šāāļøš
What a voice indeed.
A song I dont know! I like it though! š
It’s a good film too Carol Anne
Super song! First time I heard this song and saw the movie was when we were living in Germany and there were subtitles. š
I enjoyed it
