Today is Sunday, 7th June

and it’s still raining.
At least it’s a bit warmer today though.

We hope to go window shopping later and see what’s available in the shed market.
Being Sunday, opening hours are 10am to 4pm, but reading reports in the press over the last couple of days, it’s possible those restrictions will be lifted ‘temporarily’ to kickstart the economy. If that happens, I can see it becoming part of the ‘new normal’.  It won’t make any difference to the queues though as people will just have longer hours available in which to wait.

We planted some more radishes and beetroot yesterday in the greenhouse and all this rain is doing the rest of the garden some good. The three water butts are now full which will save on our water bill. We had the latest quarter’s bill this week and it was just out of budget by a few pence. Not really surprising considering we’d been showering Maggie every day for the past week, had extra wash loads and due to the heat and empty water butts, watering the garden. There was a price increase on April 1st too, so it all adds up.

At last the council are investigating the deaths of 8 Canada geese in the park. It is believed that because the water levels are so low, they are ‘upending’ to feed on the poisonous algae at the bottom. They emptied the lake last year to remove it but never filled the lake up to its full capacity, so this has had a knock on effect and could also explain why we have only one small brood of goslings and no sign of any ducklings at all now as they couldn’t get in and out of the water.

What’s on the agenda for today then?
Once again it’s a lot of not much other than walking the dog. She is still crunchy so will be having another ‘end’ shower today. She’s had a little bit of breakfast and her first meds.
My challenge now is to tempt her appetite towards her own food rather than ours, but, whatever it takes. At least she is sleeping well at night as well as during the day which can only help with the healing process.

Stay safe and well.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

You are having the worst weather. Enjoy the window ahopping.

  2. Unbelievably our water buts ran dry. This is Yorkshire…. now they are overflowing again.

The rain has stopped here (for now) but it was enough to really kick-start the first garden. We have a bumper crop of arugula and the kale is getting there too. Glad to hear that all is well. My husband is keeping busy with a “little library” that he is converting into a light house. He’s made 2 trips to the hardware store and has another planned to get a special bracket and some shingles…
