‘I can see you, you know. Stop making those silly faces, you’re making me laugh and it’ll all go horribly wrong.’
Maisie loved to lie on the big bed and watch in fascination as the makeup was carefully applied.
She stuck her tongue out and their joint laughter echoed round the room.
‘Stop it! ‘
Maisie flipped over onto her back.
‘I’m the luckiest girl in school,’ she announced.
Applying foundation and blusher, the reflection looked back at her and asked why.
‘Most of my friends say their parents are a drag, but you’re not. You’re fun, clever, and beautiful.’
‘Honey, that’s wonderful of you to say! Thank you!’
‘Of course I’ve got a Mommy and Daddy in one, and NOBODY can boast that!’
Terry turned from the mirror before applying lipstick.
Since Andrea had died, he’d had to be father and mother to his eight year old daughter. Luckily she was a well adjusted child and used to him preparing for his cabaret act as their resident Drag Queen.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
