Hubby has been annoyed about the state of our front gates, especially since he paid over the odds for WPB (waterproof boiling) plywood, or Marine Ply.
You might remember them from May 2018
The idea was that in the summer we could lave the front door open to let Maggie come and go as she pleased, but keep her safe as she couldn’t get onto the road. They have lasted well, but on the inside, ie the bit that you can’t see and where Hubby had used the plywood, despite using heavy duty preservative the water got in and the panels not only started to warp, but split and began to disintegrate. To be honest, it looked like best flaky pastry as it fell apart in your hand, layer by layer!
Today he has taken it all off, just leaving the original featherboard gates and will get some tannalised battens to reinforce them diagonally on the inside.
His timing was perfect as dinner was ready by the time he’d finished and cleared everything away.
McCheese today. We haven’t had one for a while and I made one big enough for both of us to have with veg on the side.
I am going to have to invest in some new cooking dishes pretty soon though as these ceramic ones are cracking more every time I use them. Eventually they’ll separate (bit like his gates actually!) and the contents will end up on the floor.
Pictures taken with my phone
Being Monday, it was phone in for SW this morning and I am pleased to say that I have maintained the same as last week and the week before, so still within target.
I’m especially pleased this week as I dipped the wrong side around Thursday last week so I have been making a full effort to get back on plan. I have to be honest, it’s easy enough to lose the weight at the onset provided you don’t expect instant results and are prepared to change not only your eating habits but your attitude to weight loss, but staying within that six pound window is tough.
I’m really proud of this picture originally taken in November 2016 after my first surgery but before my radiotherapy began. I was doing so well and only had another couple of pounds to lose to achieve a loss of 3 stone. I never got there as I was asked not to lose any more weight because it affected the lining up for my treatments.
Now I am where I was, so shall I try for those extra pounds? Maybe, but as I’m stable now, I don’t think I’ll rock the boat (which is where this picture was taken) !
I’ve just had to replace a frying pan. My fault entirely. I’d put some soapy water in it because there was some stuck-on bits I couldn’t get off. Put it on the stove on low. My phone rang and I forgot about the pan. Need I say more? Your dinner looks delish. And good job on the weigh-in. Yep, it’s all about maintenance. That’s where the real battle begins and ends (sigh).
I did that with boiled eggs and one of the boys came up and asked if it was right they were blowing up all over the ceiling.
Oh no!!! Funny now, but not so much at the time, right?
It was funny at the time too and everyone had cheese in their sandwiches instead.
LOL!! So important to find the humour in these situations. It really is the key to survival.
I had some fun with their sandwiches. Might do a post on that later.
Please do 😊
hehe. ……………………..
Being on target is so satisfying.
oh yeah!
👍👍👍
That’s such a wonderful photo. The food looks wonderful.
Thanks Gary. That was the year I was 60, so not bad for an old trout, eh?
I have to admit the McCheese was a little dry but the last one I made was sloppy and Hubby had to eat it with a spoon.
Congratulations on maintaining your weight! Your words only support what I’ve thought for a long time…it’s okay to indulge a little bit now and then, as long as one gets right back to health eating immediately. Good for you! I am sorry about that lovely fence/gate though. But often the cheaper (or even expensive) wood just doesn’t stand up in damp…
It’ll be OK, Hubby will sort it out and bought some fence paint to do the back and give the front a face lift.
I had been naughty with birthday cheesecake, anniversary dinner and some chocolate these past couple of weeks, but those from my neighbour are still untouched in the cupboard!
Stable is good. As long as you’re feeling healthy, a few extra pounds probably won’t hurt. (Says the lady who’s seriously fat, but I figure the next time I get sick it will all drop off anyway as it usually does.)
Having a fenced off driveway is good for letting the dog run, isn’t it? We thought about fencing our off, but then decided we didn’t want to deal with opening and closing the gates every time we went somewhere, so we opted for merely running the fence from the house to the garage, with a walk-in gate. That way, we still can still use the front door if we don’t want to deal with gates at all, and we can use the side door to let Cody out into the yard. And we can keep the side gate locked since we still have access to the drive and garage from the front door. Works well for us.
We only have the one door into the property, and another gate into the garden so can leave that one open and Maggie can come and go. We don’t have a garage, but we do have a shed plot prepared!!
Another great post. 💜💜💜
Glad the weigh in was good! It is the way things are – nothing is made to last. The plywood or the baking dish. I replaced all of mine with glass and haven’t had a problem. I only bought on from the store – all the rest were from the second hand store… Do you think you could post the recipe for your McCheese?
I’m going back to glass too.
Will do for the McCheese (macaroni cheese) later today.
the weight comes off pretty easily at the start. I agree. Its losing it after a year or so gets harder and harder. I’ve pretty much decided to give up on slimming world for now, I haven’t been able to do the zoom calls successfully, they just aren’t working out for me. Maybe if they reopen I’ll go back, we’ll see, but for now just doing it on my own.
I’m not ‘zooming’ either but send in my weight every week. It’s getting harder to maintain and I’ve slipped so trying really hard this week to get back in target.
