Shortcut

Hubby and I have always said that you can never ‘go back’, be it to an area or job, even some friends you have lost touch with temporarily.
This was exactly the case when I left my previous relationship and returned to my home town. I thought I knew it pretty well, even though I had been away for almost 8 years.
I knew a shortcut to the quay avoiding the bottlenecks of one way systems and the lifting bridge.
Except it wasn’t a shortcut anymore as the road had been blocked off at one end and a block of flats erected!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I went back to my childhood town after quite a few years away. It had so changed. It had so changed. Just not the same anymore. Don’t want to go back again now.

  2. Awhile back, I drove my girls to see my little hometown. I was absolutely shocked by its somewhat rough appearance. It hadn’t really changed, but I had. I’m living in a house with a yard my mother could only dream of; I only wish she had lived long enough to enjoy it with me.

  3. I feel like that when I visit the area where I grew up, Di. It has changed completely.

Yep. I know what you mean! I visited my hometown after 6 years and everything was different!

Always safer to go the long way round! 😀
