Welcome to The Spice Girls ‘Stop ‘

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9ugtPn2crQ

This was the third single from their second album Spiceworld in 1998, and one of my favourites for the beat and what I deemed ‘happy sound’ as it always made me smile and tap my feet.
It was their first single NOT to reach the number one spot, peaking at Number two.
I was a fan (loved their harmonies on Viva Forever and Goodbye) for a while and bought their albums but not singles.

“Stop”
Written by Spice Girls, Andy Watkins, Paul Wilson

You just walk in, I make you smile
It’s cool but you don’t even know me
You take an inch, I run a mile
Can’t win you’re always right behind me
And we know that you could go and find some other
Take or leave it or just don’t even bother
Caught in a craze, it’s just a faze
Or will this be around foreverDon’t you know it’s going too fast
Racing so hard you know it won’t last
Don’t you know, what can’t you see
Slow it down, read the sign
So you know just where you’re goingStop right now, thank you very much
I need somebody with a human touch
Hey you, always on the run
Gotta slow it down baby, gotta have some fun

Do do-do do, do do-do do
Do do-do, always be together
Ba da-ba ba, ba da-ba ba
Ba da-ba, stay that way forever

And we know that you could go and find some other
Take or leave it cause we’ve always got each other
You know who you are and yes, you’re gonna breakdown
You’ve crossed the line so you’re gonna have to turnaround

Don’t you know it’s going too fast
Racing so hard you know it won’t last
Don’t you know, what can’t you see
Slow it down, read the sign
So you know just where you’re going

Stop right now, thank you very much
I need somebody with a human touch
Hey you, always on the run
Gotta slow it down baby, gotta have some fun

Gotta keep it down honey, lay your back on the line
Cause I don’t care about the money, don’t be wasting my time
You need, less speed, get off my case
You gotta slow it down baby, just get out of my face

Stop right now, thank you very much
I need somebody with a human touch
Hey you, always on the run
Gotta slow it down baby, gotta have some fun

Stop right now, thank you very much
I need somebody with a human touch
Hey you, always on the run
Gotta slow it down baby, gotta have some fun

(Stop right now) Stop right now, thank you very much
(We wanna thank you, wanna thank you) I need somebody with a human touch
(Stop right now) Hey you, always on the run
(Thank you very much, thank you very much) Gotta slow it down baby, gotta have some fun

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Nice song – I like it! I know VERY little about the Spice Girls and probably heard more about them after they broke up. πŸ˜€

New tune for me. Very “up” and oh my are they pretty! First time seeing what they look like.

    • That was over 20 years ago. and apart from Posh (now Mrs David Beckham) they’ve all enjoyed solo careers. Don’t hear much of Geri Halliwell now, though she goes by her married name of Geri Horner.

  6. Carol anne says:

I was a huge fan of the spice girls! I loved them! My favourites are mama and I love their first hit also!
