Will we ever learn?
Hubby had his figures and requirements to hand and phoned up one of the local wood merchants. The cost was way beyond what we were expecting, but this is because rather than paying for the wood you want, you get close and have to pay for the wastage too.
Hm. Plan B then and here we go again.
Hubby has been trying to get the necessary materials for the platform base for a while, and whilst a lot of DIY places are ‘open’ for order and collect, it would appear that most are unable to accept orders for wood anyway let alone delivery of same to the customer.
We miss the Partner. That car was a work horse, and we brought home concrete blocks, kitchen units, posts, cement, gravel, washing machines, a fridge freezer and god knows what else in it. We even slept in it when we were house hunting after selling the cottage.
So, we are now on Plan F, which was the original Plan A, but not cost effective at the time.
Today, we went down to the garden centre as we noticed yesterday that another branch of the same chain is now open. They had exactly what we wanted at a price within a revised budget, BUT our little Hyundai I10 couldn’t accommodate them to bring them home, and it would have taken 4 trips and probably a busted suspension.
However, the delivery charge is only £10, so we were ready to part with our cash and arrange a delivery date.
That would be a No.
Not because they aren’t doing deliveries, but because at the moment THEY CAN’T.
Both of their delivery vehicles are off the road, one needing major repairs, and also one of their drivers is off sick. However, we were invited to ring next week when things may be different and an alternative vehicle may have been acquired.
We take this as a result, and just hope that when we do ring, they still have what we want available. We do have two options, both identical in price so are hopeful that a shed will shortly follow the base!
