Song Lyric Sunday 10th May 2020

Today is our 29th Wedding Anniversary and Jim’s theme this week  is Couple/Together/Us
It’s the second time round for both of us, and one of the songs we both love is Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel’s Don’t Give Up, even though it was released three years before we met.
It has special meaning to us as when the chips were really down, we drew strength from each other and got through whatever it was together.
It is hard to believe we’ve been together 31 years, and he can still surprise me after all this time. We aren’t just a couple who are together, we are definitely an ‘Us’.

[Verse 1: Peter Gabriel]
In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I’ve changed my face, I’ve changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose[Chorus 1: Kate Bush]
Don’t give up ’cause you have friends
Don’t give up, you’re not beaten yet
Don’t give up, I know you can make it good[Verse 2: Peter Gabriel]
Though I saw it all around
Never thought that I could be affected
Thought that we’d be last to go
It is so strange the way things turn
Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground

[Chorus 2: Kate Bush]
Don’t give up, you still have us
Don’t give up, we don’t need much of anything
Don’t give up, ’cause somewhere there’s a place where we belong

[Bridge: Kate Bush & Peter Gabriel]
Rest your head, you worry too much
It’s going to be alright
When times get rough, you can fall back on us
Don’t give up, please don’t give up
Got to walk out of here, I can’t take any more
Gonna stand on that bridge, keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come and whatever may go
That river’s flowing, that river’s flowing

[Verse 3: Peter Gabriel]
Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs

[Chorus 3: Kate Bush]
Don’t give up ’cause you have friends
Don’t give up, you’re not the only one
Don’t give up, no reason to be ashamed
Don’t give up, you still have us
Don’t give up now, we’re proud of who you are
Don’t give up, you know it’s never been easy
Don’t give up ’cause I believe there’s a place
There’s a place where we belong

Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up
Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up
Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up
Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up
Don’t give up, don’t give up, don’t give up

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Wishing you and Hubby a wonderful anniversary you are a lovely couple. Don’t give up is one of my favourite songs too. I live Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel so much 💜💜💜

  6. Best wishes on your anniversary!! I love reading about couples that ‘made it’ and are happy jogging along together after years. So reassuring. If you read my own SLS post, you’ll have noted that I never knew such unity in my own life, my parents were unhappy, Bob’s first marriage was a disaster, as was ours in time, friends and family all have had horrible relationships. I think it takes a lot of work and two special people (like yourself and your hubby) to make things last. Good for you!!

    • We are blessed. It’s the second time for both of us and I guess it’s worked because we weren’t looking for a partner, just friendship, and it kinda snuck up on us! My parents were well matched and happy, though there were the usual disagreements as you’d expect.

I remember seeing this video before and thinking it was pretty lubby dubby between Kate and Peter, then learned they were an item for awhile. I love this song. They sound great together. Happy 31st Anniversary to You and Hub!
