I’m going to shock you now…………

I am Keeper of the Purse Strings, Queen of the Budget, and know a rip off when I see one.
Well, it wasn’t me, but Hubby.

You may remember in this post I was pleased that we’d been able to get some pulses (lentils, chick peas, split peas etc) for our stews, and even better, having bought 2 packs, we’d only been charged for one.
The cost of a 500g bag then was a mere £1.15.

The world has gone mad, and this particular supermarket is trying to placate its share holders by bumping up prices. This week, the same 500g bag was marked up as £7.
Hopefully this was just a pricing error and they don’t really expect people to pay that.
Or do they?

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

That is outrageous! I hope they’re stuck with all of them.

    • Daylight robbery, so next time we go in I’m going to see if they’ve put the price back. Hubby said he couldn’t believe it and double checked. We wouldn’t have paid that anyway, but …………… bloody hell !!!!

      • fransiweinstein says:

Seriously!!! There is some price gouging going on and it is truly disgusting. It always is but under the current circumstances it is just inexcusable. Wonder if that store has a website or something or if there is a consumer complaints website where you could leave a comment. They deserve to be outed for that.

      • I’;m going to check it out next time we’re there and if it’s still £7 I shall be sending in a complaint.

      • fransiweinstein says:

Good! They should not be allowed to get away with that.

  2. Strange times, eggs are pricey here

    • our eggs have maintained at £1.18 for a tray of 15. However, a wholesaler was selling a tray of 30 for £2.50 which as now increased to £4.50.
Neither are free range, and the ones we buy are from ‘caged birds’

  3. So many things have been marked up. It all adds up. We always bought the cheap tins of carrots. Son likes them. They were 20p, now they are 44p.

Honest to god, the world has gone mad, who in their right mind would pay that much? I dont know anyone who would, unless you had oceans of money to throw around lol!

Yikes! That is a severe hike in price. I’m happy that my store hasn’t raised prices at all. In fact the price of some things have fallen. Currently they dropped the price of most fresh produce because people weren’t buying it and it was going to spoil. So they put it on sale and I was able to get a pint of blueberries for $1 and I was able to get avocados 2 for a $1…

    • I love blueberries and raspberries and would have them on my cereal until prices almost doubled last year. I haven’t bought any since and our bushes yielded zilch so they’ve gone too.

Pasta at £6 a (small) bag at one local shop…

It’s got to be an error, surely that’s ridiculous!
