I have to admit I was stumped and digging around on the internet came up with this:

‘La Bamba’

This is one of the most famous Mexican folk songs in history. Its title relates to a traditional wedding dance from Veracruz, Mexico. In spite of this origin, “La Bamba” became a worldwide sensation with the rock ‘n’ roll version recorded in 1958 by the legendary Mexican-American singer Ritchie Valens. In 1987, the popular band Los Lobos recorded the most well-known version of this song for the movie “La Bamba.” It went to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 singles chart that year, staying there for three weeks of its 21-week chart run. The soundtrack to the movie went double platinum. Valenz’s recording just hit No. 22 in 1959. (source liveabout.com)

It was one of the first US hits to be sung entirely in Spanish, as well as one of the first to successfully blend traditional Latin-American music with rock. This makes it often considered the first Latin rock song.

The title has no literal translation. The closest associated word is “Bambolear” which means to swing.

Para bailar La Bamba
Para bailar La Bamba se necesita una poca de gracia
Una poca de gracia
Pa’ mi, pa’ ti, y arriba, y arriba
Y arriba y arriba
Por ti seré, por ti seré, por ti seré

Yo no soy marinero
Yo no soy marinero, soy capitán
Soy capitán, soy capitán
Bamba, bamba
Bamba, bamba
Bamba, bamba, bam

Y arriba y arriba
Por ti seré, por ti seré, por ti seré

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
