I was given three books two Christmases ago and hadn’t picked up any of them.
That changed a couple of nights ago when I thought maybe I ought to make the effort and do something different to blogging or playing my computer at cribbage.
The story revolves around three women, one 50, one 40 and one 30, so each has an introductory chapter.
The 50 year old discovers her husband is wanted for fraud at her special birthday party, and surprise, surprise, when the police arrive, he’s done a runner leaving her with a houseful of unwanted guests at a party she didn’t want in the first place.
The 40 year old goes into labour on her birthday and I laughed out loud at the narrative about a Barbie doll would get stuck ‘down there’ trying to get out, as the plastic boobs would get in the way!
The 30 year old is bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding, and a friend of the groom makes a play for her. She’s elated as she’s a curvy lady and has never had a boyfriend.
We have a Bridget Jones ‘big knicker moment’ when she goes off to the ladies to remove her tummy control tights, where from the confines of a cubicle she overhears her friend slagging her off because she wants to dump her as she’s ‘fat’ and doesn’t fit in with her thin friends. She’s devastated, and when she confronts them, it turns out her ‘best friend’ had told her groom about her still being a virgin and he had enlisted the help of the potential lover to ‘get it out of her system’.
Now we continue by going back a month…………………………….
Can’t wait for bedtime! Full review will follow when I finish it.
